Something new is coming your way

I’m stoked that I’m about to unveil my new blog and branding for you verrrry soon.

In the meantime, I have to share a couple things that make me happy and drive me to do better.

I received the nicest comment from a groom’s sister yesterday:

“Your passion is so evident in your work.  You have an uncanny ability to capture a person’s soul.  I’m sitting here balling - don’t worry, the tears followed a huge smile.”

As Truvy says in the quintessential chick-flick, Steel Magnolias, “Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion.”  I couldn’t agree more. Contradictory emotions like this are why I got into photography in the first place. Thank you for the beautiful compliment.  It made my day.

And speaking of smiles, photographer, Jeremy Lawson, held a get-together a while back.  Check out his hilarious photos.  You might even recognize a goofy redhead in some of them.

Finally, Caitlin has been featured in Trendsetting Wedding.  Check her out!

Out of the office

I will be out of the country for the next four days and will have only sporadic access to e-mail.  I will answer all e-mails and phone calls upon my return.

Don’t be jealous, but I’m going somewhere warm.  Guess.  It begins with a “M.”  :)

Published online

This past October, I photographed Jon’s bar mitzvah, which is currently being featured on Partyspot, a sister site of the Knot.  Lisa Paul of Color and Company did the flowers and event planning and Michael’s of Morton Grove did the catering.  I highly recommend both vendors.

Good news all around

First, my cousin gave birth to a little boy on Valentine’s Day.  I’m so excited because the baby is already home, although he was born a month early and only weighs 4 lbs. and some change.  They had to induce labor early due to my cousin having some health issues.  But everyone is GOOD!!!  I’m so happy.  Hopefully, someday soon I’ll have photos to show you.

The other good news is less important, but I sold one of my Nikon D300s and some lenses to upgrade to the Nikon D700, which is a full frame camera with amazing high ISO capabilities, and the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 lens. I’m stoked to try them out.  I should receive the items by the end of the week.  The new equipment will make photographing dark wedding receptions and churches a breeze, so I can focus less on the techie stuff and more on grabbing that critical moment on the dance floor.  You know the one: Aunt Bette and Uncle Ernie cuttin’ a rug after a few glasses of wine while everyone watches in awe of their swing dancing prowess.  :)

A busy booking bee

Today has been busy…lots of people contacting me about boudoir sessions, headshots, and weddings.  I’m super excited, because everyone sounds so nice and friendly.  I love being a photographer and meeting so many fantastic folks.

Speaking of wonderful peeps, here are some photos from a couple fabulous weddings where I served as second photographer with Jeremy Lawson.  He seriously has the best clients…well, besides mine of course. :)

Albums: Worth the Investment

As a photographer, I’ve been searching far and wide for the right kind of albums for my clients. Not only do I want the albums to be well-made and eventually become heirlooms, but the photos need to come alive and pop off the page.  As a recent mother said to me, “These aren’t the type of albums they had when I was married.  They’re like fine art.”

I carry other albums, but below I’m featuring my 20-page flush mount leather album.  Notice how the thick pages open flat, so I can create panoramic spreads of photos.  The album size below is 14 inches in width by 11 inches in height.  Also, the album comes in a wide array of leather colors and textures.  Oh, and the leather feels beautiful and supple.

With a wedding album, you can relive your wedding memories again and again.  Not only that, but your future kids will be able to see how beautiful and handsome Mommy and Daddy were back in the day (and still are).  :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

As previously mentioned, I’m volunteering my photography services to Sweet Miss Giving’s.  Here are some more goodies to drool over.  Hope they tide you over, because I’m heading to vacation in Panama.  I’ll be out for the first week of December and will have very limited access to e-mail and telephone.  In the meantime, have a happy Thanksgiving.

Oh faithful clients: Albums

Great news!

I found an awesome designing, albeit expensive, album program that allows me to design fantastic albums in less time (they used to take me one to two weeks to design).

In honor of this great new find, I’m giving my past and current clients 25% off my current album prices if you order one by Nov. 7.

Here are my current album prices:
20-page coffee table leather album = $600
40-page coffee table leather album = $800
20-page flushmount leather album = $1000
40-page flushmount leather album = $1,500

After consulting with photographers across the country and seeing the albums in person, I decided to use the album company Forbeyon and they are “beyon” fantastic.  Aren’t I punny? :)  I’ve already ordered some samples and they are on the way.  Stay tuned for photos.

So sign up, folks.  If you order the super posh 40-page flushmount leather album, you’ll save $375!  What a deal, I tell ya!

Feel free to e-mail me at peacock.laurie@gmail.com if you have any questions.

And lastly, I leave you with this hilarious retro slideshow from the Chicago Tribune.

And you think how we currently dress up our dogs for Halloween is bad:
