What? A post without photos?

I’m a gal with many loves in addition to photography. Regular visitors already know my love of babies and animals, but I also adore the written word. Reading has always been escapism for me. My version of heaven would consist of a cool breeze, glass of freshly squeezed lemonade, bed of fluffy pillows and a great book.

Some of my fondest childhood memories involve reading.  My mom’s animated voice reading Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hatches an Egg, complete with Maysie the bird’s southern accent and Horton’s deep, low voice made me giggle prior to many doctors’ appointments.  In sixth grade, I stayed home for a week for a particularly vicious bout of strep throat.  I began and finished Gone with the Wind that week while dreaming I was Scarlet during naps.  My childhood equivalent to the Harry Potter series was Phyllis Reynolds Naylor’s Witch’s SisterA Tree Grows in Brooklyn helped me through the tough times while growing up.  As you can see, I could list hundreds of books, which marked each milestone in my life.

In an effort to meld two of my loves, reading and photography. I’m going to periodically blog book reviews with photos inspired by my favorite writers.  I feel like I could use some escapism from this Chicago winter.

Stay tuned.  My first post will be about Toni Morrison’s Beloved.

In the meantime, what are some your favorite childhood books?
