I photographed Lisa and Daniel’s wedding almost ten years ago and now they have a son with soulful eyes and a friendly dog, both of whom I quickly fell in love.

Lisa shares my passion for documenting family life and hired me for a day-in-the-life session. (You can see more examples of my documentary family photos here.) I spent four hours capturing sweet moments of their family’s Saturday morning, including getting dressed in a “fat Elvis” costume, a walk around their neighborhood, which included a pumpkin patch and the beach, and quiet time in their home. We also stopped along the way to take some environmental portraits to be used as art in their home.

What I really enjoy about documentary sessions is they allow me to be creative and record the little details that make a family tick. This sessions really push me to quickly react to tell their family story.

Here are some of my faves during the session.
